Might have to start calling Star Creature the Boogie Bullies the way they are pushing this hard synth funk heavily across dance floors across the planet. I wouldn't bet against them - the confidence that left-field, instrumental synth funk can slam out a dance floor Chicago style shows us why the Windy City has been such a taste-making influential city for DJs, players and listeners for decades. The Windy City label taps Toronto's Raf Reza here for an outer-space exploration that will leave your dance floor floating. Why You Gotta on the A Side delivers the perfect tempo, chugging bassline, atmospheric pads, sneering synth lines along a simple disco drum track - straight connection and gets the job done. Proper B-Side Balearic Boogie fits perfectly into a seaside sundrenched terrace or basement sweatbox - either way eyes will be closed, vibes will be open. RIYL Star Creature regulars A Vision Of Panorama, Mogwaa, E. Live, Ourra - a Star Creature must cop.
Words from Raf:
"The record was made in my humble attic bedroom studio in Toronto when I was 23 year old. Originally it was released via Cosmic Resonance, ran by my friend James Harris (who lived on the 2nd floor) and Chris Evans. This was my first record ever, one that highlighted my roots in Soul/Funk/Jazz music. I wasn't really moving towards writing music like so, but a friend of mine once told me that all the best songwriting skills will come from studying the greats in the Soul/Funk/Jazz realm. I took this seriously and made an effort to learn how to "write" music. Fast forward 8 years, Tom Noble wrote to me in a flurry of texts asking if there ever will be a 7" version of this released, as he thought it would be a great shout for all them 7" funk DJs. I didn't really know what to do about that but he took it upon himself to reach out to Star Creature and the rest is history"
